The Beginnings of a Blanket - Der Anfang einer Decke!

 

Dear friends,

neither my husband nor I had to go to work at the turn of the year. He's got a bad cold though, so we stayed at home peacefully. I preferred spending this luxurious time off with my husband instead of disappearing into the studio on my own. So we sat together in the living room watching TV documentaries on end about Scotland, the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, Arctic voyages etc.

Watching the telly though, I cannot really concentrate on anything challenging. Therefore I carried out an idea I already cherished for quite a while.

In the middle of 2015 one of my online yarn-suppliers had a special offer: all 37 shades of creative cotton aran from Rico-design for a reasonable price. I had not worked with Rico yarn yet, so I though it a good idea to purchase the yarn. Furthermore I anticipated having a sample of all the shades, as there's always a difference between what you see on your computer-screen and reality.

  

Soon afterwards I got a parcel full of yarn... Now what? I handled the yarn, played around, arranged different colour-schemes, thought about what to do with it and dismissed each and every idea popping up – you know that too?

I got pretty much annoyed with myself about it all till I got the idea of making a blanket out of all shades (of course omitting the dark and gloomy ones).

What!? Another blanket!? I've already got one going – already made about 80 grannies (and still approx twice as much to make... Sigh...)! So why on earth...!?

Be that as it may. On Wednesday evening after we did the groceries, I took the box full of Rico-yarn, a N° 5 hook, my scissors and a yarning needle into the living room.

  

Imagining a blanket of the size of a plaid, I started with 200 chain stitches (width being approx. 140 cm), continuing in rows of simple V-stitches. At first I though I'd just take the next shade at random, but soon I found myself arranging an ongoing colour-scheme. So the first four to five rows do not really fit in well but I can live with that. Right now I'm debating whether I should swap the greyish shades for green or dark brown... By the end of the blanket I'll have worked out a perfect colour-scheme I could use for the next blanket...

  

I do hope I have enough yarn to crochet till the blanket measures approx. 170 cm. If not, I'll just wait for the next special offer...

mein Mann und ich mussten zum Jahreswechsel hin nicht arbeiten. Da er sich eine dicke Erkältung eingefangen hat, sind wir gemütlich zu Hause geblieben. Statt mich ins Atelier zurückzuziehen, habe ich die freien Tage mit ihm im Wohnzimmer verbracht (bzw. verbringe sie noch). Wir haben dabei unzählige Fernsehdokumentationen geschaut (über Schottland, England, „Mit Arved Fuchs durch den Nordatlantik“, und viele mehr). Beim Fernsehen kann ich mich jedoch nicht auf komplizierte Muster konzentrieren und deswegen habe ich eine Idee, die mich schon eine Weile begleitet, endlich in die Tat umgesetzt.

Irgendwo Mitte 2015 gab es nämlich ein Sonderangebot bei einem meiner Online-Wollshops: alle 37 Farben von Rico Creative Cotton aran. Ich hatte bislang noch nie mit diesem Garn gearbeitet und weil es obendrein interessant ist ein Muster aller Farben vorliegen zu haben (es gibt immer einen Unterschied zwischen das, was man auf dem Bildschirm sieht, und die Realität), ließ ich mir das Paket zuschicken.

  

Nun lag das Garn im Studio herum. Ich habe es immer mal wieder angeschaut, angefasst, nach Farben zusammengelegt und umsortiert, und überlegt, was ich mit dem Garn machen könnte, und jede Idee hinterher dennoch wieder verworfen – kennt ihr das auch?

Ich wurde zunehmend ungehalten mit mir selbst, bis mir die Idee kam, eine Decke zu häkeln, einfach alle Farben wild und bunt durcheinander. Na ja, selbstredend ohne die dunklen – also auf jeden Fall ohne Schwarz, Dunkelblau oder Dunkelviolett.

Wie bitte!? Noch eine Decke? Ich habe doch schon eine in Arbeit! Immerhin habe ich schon 80 Grannies beisammen (und mindestens noch zweimal soviele zu häkeln... Seufz...)!

Nun ja. Gleich Mittwochabend nach den Wocheneinkäufen, habe ich es mir mit der Kiste voller Rico-Garn (dazu einer 5er Nadel, meiner kleinen Schere und einer Stopfnadel) im Wohnzimmer gemütlich gemacht.

  

Da ich gerne eine Decke in der Größe eines Plaids hätte (ca. 140cm x 170cm) habe ich mit einer 200er Luftmaschenkette angefangen. Anschließend ging es einfach im V-Stich weiter, eine Reihe nach der anderen. Anfangs dachte ich noch, die nächste Farbe einfach blind aus der Kiste zu nehmen, aber bald erwischte ich mich dabei, wie ich Farbverläufe am zusammenlegen war. Die ersten vier bis fünf Reihen fallen deshalb etwas aus dem Rahmen, aber ich kann gut damit leben.

  

Ich bin aber noch am überlegen, ob ich beim nächsten Durchgang die beiden Grautönen nicht doch gegen Tannengrün und Dunkelbraun tauschen soll... Bis ich die Decke vollendet habe, habe ich auch den perfekten Farbverlauf zusammengestellt – für den Fall, dass ich noch eine Decke häkeln möchte...

Hoffentlich reicht aber das Garn für die ganzen 170 cm! Nun ja, wenn nicht, warte ich halt auf das nächste Sonderangebot!
